Who has migraine
About 500,000 Danes have migraines. Some are hit hard with many attacks, others have only a few. Approximately every 7th woman and every 15th man and child has had at least one migraine during the past 12 months.
Migraines may not yet be measured in the doctor's office so the doctor must rely on the patient's statements when the diagnosis is made.
It is especially women in the work force who suffer from migraines. Up to every fourth woman aged between 30 and 45 years had at least one migraine attack during the past 12months. Among men, 'only' around on in 12 men had a migraine.
Also children have migraines. Small children usually tell that they have a stomach ache and have to throw up. When they come into school they also tell that they have a headache. There are on average one child in each class who sometimes have migraines before puberty. When children reach puberty, one in ten have migraines occasionally, ie there are two or three in each of the older classes who have migraine.
