OTC drugs side effects
Although OTC drugs are easily accessible and not subject to any prescription, one should not uncritically take these medicines.
Paracetamol may cause serious liver damage if you take twice the recommended dose. Liver injury is difficult or impossible to cure. The recommended daily dose for adults is 4 grams (ie 8 tablets). The margin of safety is incredibly small!
Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) can cause stomach ulcers if you take the tablets on an empty stomach. Remember to eat a little with aspirin tablets.
NSAIDs (anti-rheumatic drugs, including Ibuprofen) tend to give ulcers. Some types increase the risk of blood clots. Remember to eat a little with the tablets.
Always remember to overerholde the recommended maximum daily dose.
