Choose the treatment that best suits you
Fortunately, many treatments available for the migraine sufferer.
Acute medical treatment
Really many migraine sufferers choose to take one or another medication (over the counter medicine(OTC) or prescription) when they have migraines. Medications approved by the Medicines Authority has been tested and evaluated, and has a documented effect that is significantly greater than placebo. Prescription medicines are available only by appointment with a doctor.
OTC Medication helps many sufferers who do not have a lot of attacks, or if the attacks are not too severe. But be careful with the quantities of OTC drugs. It is particularly important not to take larger doses than what is recommended in the leaflet in the package if you take paracetamol.
If you have many migraine attacks, or if they are more severe than non-prescription medication can handle, there are prescription medicines called triptans (Almogran, Imigran, Maxalt, Migard, Naragran, Relpax or Zomig), which helps 3 out of 4 migraine sufferers to have a good life .
A small group of migraineurs have no effect of the triptans, and must try other means.

Preventive treatment
Do you have migraines more than around 10 days a month, doctors usually offer preventive treatment. They do this because there is a real risk of getting medicine induced headache if you take either painkillers or triptans (or a combination thereof) more than around 10 days a month.
Preventive treatment may be one of many different types of medicines, all of which are tested and approved for other diseases. The preventive effect has been an 'adverse' reaction, and the doctors can not predict who among the migraineurs will benefit from what type of medication. So maybe you needto try many different types of preventive medicine before you find the right one.
